* History of Pulguksa Temple The construction of Pulguksa temple was started by Prime Minister Kim Tae-song in 751 during the reign of King Kyongdok and completed in 774 during the reign of King Hyegong of the Shilla Kingdom. More than 80 buildings of the temple were burnt down by the Japanese invaders in 1593. Some of the buildings including the main temple of Taeungjon were later reconstructed.
